Padgett Short
Story Wins Hillerman Competition
George Padgett,
associate professor in the School of Communications, recently
received First Place in the 2007 Tony Hillerman Mystery Short
Story competition. The $1,500 grand prize was awarded
Nov. 3 during a luncheon at the Hillerman Writers Conference
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to the cash
prize, Padgett received several copies of signed Hillerman
novels and short story collections. His winning story
"Hey Old Man, Why Do You Wait There?" will appear
in the March 2008 issue of "Cowboys & Indians"
magazine, cosponsor of the annual competition.
