Padgett Short Story Wins Hillerman Competition

George Padgett, associate professor in the School of Communications, recently received First Place in the 2007 Tony Hillerman Mystery Short Story competition.  The $1,500 grand prize was awarded Nov. 3 during a luncheon at the Hillerman Writers Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  In addition to the cash prize, Padgett received several copies of signed Hillerman novels and short story collections.  His winning story "Hey Old Man, Why Do You Wait There?" will appear in the March 2008 issue of "Cowboys & Indians" magazine, cosponsor of the annual competition.
