Apply to be Part of Live Oak Communications
The School of Communications at Elon is now accepting student applications for account executives, team leaders, creative team members and an assistant director to participate in the student-run communications agency that was launched in the fall of 2007. Live Oak Communications has already worked to develop and execute public relations, advertising and integrated communications programs for real clients in the North Carolina region, including both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Students from all majors and years are welcome to apply for account executive positions. Team leaders are required to be of junior or senior status and the assistant director should be a junior. Account executives and team leaders will serve the agency for one semester and will be eligible to receive one credit hour from the School of Communications per semester. The assistant director will serve the agency for one semester and receive two credit hours from the School of Communications. The assistant director will also be paid for the semester and will have the opportunity to apply for director the following year.
The term “account executive” is a professional communications term used to describe executives who work on a specific client account. Live Oak is structured into client teams, with account executives assigned to each team. Team leaders, will lead each team in creating a client plan and help with overseeing the implementation of that plan over the course of the semester. The assistant director will work very closely with the director and faculty advisor to oversee the Live Oak Communications budget, meet with clients, and much more.
“The firm will be looking for students with excellent writing skills, as well as enthusiasm, resourcefulness, creativity and critical thinking skills,” Professor Lee Bush, faculty director for the agency, said. “In addition to written communications abilities, the agency is also interested in applicants with visual technology expertise, including video and film production and graphic design.”
Students may apply for account executive, team leader, creative team or assistant director by filling out an application and returning it by November 9 to Professor Lee Bush, Campus Box 2850 or by turning it into the School of Communications office.
