The Streets of NYC is an engaging and interactive course designed to make students active participants as they research, study and identify the impressive facets that have characterized and shaped New York City. The course culminates in an individualized ethnographic project.

Prior to leaving for New York students choose a street, neighborhood or borough to research for their ethnography project.

Faculty members from across campus rotate in during the summer to teach in two-week increments, incorporating four unique units of study.

  • The History of NYC: Students take an in-depth tour of Manhattan, visit an interactive museum and take a close look at immigration and its impact on New York.
  • Madison Avenue: Students are provided insight into the practices, concepts and ever-changing direction of the advertising world.
  • Broadway: Students explore the world of live theatre incorporating production, costumes, set designs, guest speakers and backstage tours.
  • Wall Street:  Students are introduced to the New York Stock Exchange and gain a greater understanding of real-life news and information in the world of business and finance.
