Elon's Education Outreach staff fosters collaboration with area school districts, universities, public agencies, and the community. The Director of Education Outreach is the point of contact for school district communications and oversees field placements, ensuring compliance with University and agency regulations.
Students enrolled in teacher education courses have the opportunity to work closely with the local schools and community agencies through a variety of partnerships. Candidates in the teacher education program participate in a variety of field experiences in diverse school settings. Early field experiences may include tutoring, observing, classroom assistance, small group instruction and, informal assessment, allowing candidates to continually connect their learning to what is experienced in the classroom. The culminating field experience for licensure candidates is a full sememster of student teaching.
Located on Elon University’s campus, the Cable School is a restored 1850’s schoolhouse that was part of the first public school system in North Carolina, known as the Common Schools. The Cable School was part of District 21 and was in operation from the 1850’s – 1870’s.
