Measures of Success

Many people will ask "What percentage of your students get to (insert your favorite professional school here)".  The better question would be what are the average scores that your successful students make to enter the desired professional school. The chart below shows the Elon matriculant to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. 

Our current group of allopathic matriculants (2010-2011) has an average MCAT of 28.5, an average overall GPA of 3.54 and a science GPA of 3.40.  Our currents osteopathic matriculants have an average MCAT of 25.33, an average overall GPA of 3.42 and a science GPA of 3.37.

But numbers are not the only measure of success.  These students also had well thought-out and well crafted personal statements, had leadership positions on and off campus, had volunteered at area health facilities, had done some research, had exemplary letters of recommendation, and were well spoken and thoughtful about health care and helping others.  Elon prides itself on offering opportunities that will help a student in their quest to get into a health-professions program, but ultimately, it is up to the student to put in the long hours studying, volunteering, and being a leader.
