SPECIALIZED LABORATORY ASSISTANTSHIPS Specialized laboratory assistantships can be used to fulfill the biology department’s experiential requirement. It should be emphasized that the experiential requirement cannot be satisfied by performing the usual duties of a lab assistant in Bio 102, 113, 114, or any other laboratory course on campus. A specialized laboratory assistantship must be developed in consultation with a full-time faculty member and approved by the department chair. To date, few students have used this option to satisfy the experiential requirement. This opportunity is somewhat analogous to an on-campus internship in which the on-site internship supervisor is a faculty member. Although this option is atypical, it may be particularly appropriate for science education majors who plan to enter teaching careers after graduation. If you are interested in learning more about this option, please consult the Chair of the Biology Department. |
