The Elon College Fellows has enriched my college experience by keeping me grounded, giving me direction and providing me with much-needed discipline.
Within the program the opportunities for educational enrichment, friendship building, and faculty support are endless. Even fun and fellowship are built into the foundation of the program. From the trip to Washington, D.C., my freshman year, to studying abroad in Peru, to kayaking the Haw River for two summers-without the Fellows program I would have never traveled these roads and experienced these life building opportunities.
One of the best parts about the program is the opportunity it provides to form relationships with faculty and staff members. Each fellow gets to designate their own faculty mentor to provide support and advice. My mentor has guided me to think critically, analytically and tried to get me “out of the box." We have exchanged ideas, argued over issues and collaborated on research. Throughout my journey, she has been the one guide I could not have done without. The Elon College Fellows program gave me this unique opportunity of having a one on one mentor to work with for four years.
The best part about the Elon College Fellows program is the opportunity it provides to complete undergraduate research. I am currently in the process of applying and interviewing for graduate programs. I have decent GRE scores and a decent GPA but the graduate programs seem to be more interested in my undergraduate research.
