Grace H.Y. Lin holds an Ed.D. and a M.Ed. in Second Language Education from the University of Houston, and a B.A. in History from the Chengchi University. She holds a Chinese Language Teaching Certificate from the Rice University. Before coming to Elon, she taught at the Appalachian State University.
Dr. Lin's research interests focus on Mandarin Chinese pedagogy, second language acquisition, heritage language learning, Chinese philosophy and religious thoughts, Chán Buddhism, and Shijing. Dr. Lin's book "Acculturation and Heritage Language Maintenance: Cultural and Educational Experiences of Chinese Americans" was published in Germany, 2008. She continues writing her second book , tentatively entitled "Huikai Chanshi and Wumen Guan: The Chán wisdom of Song Dynasty", to explore and understand the essence of Chinese Chán during the 13th century and its cultural implications in the modern times.
