At Elon, classes are small and the low student-faculty ratio means that students enjoy significant individual attention and build close working relationships with their professors. Health Professions faculty are closely involved with student research as well as their own research. They provide close supervision and advice for students interested in health professions. Dr. Robert Vick, Associate Professor of Biology and Official Health Professions Advisor (as designated by AAMC and NAAHP - the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions), and Dr. Tonya Train, Assistant Professor of Biology, are members of NAAHP and regularly attend national and state meetings of advisors where they communicate with educational leaders from medical and other health profession schools across the nation.
As a Health Professions student, you will spend plenty of time in the $18 million McMichael Science Center, which provides access to a stunning array of the latest technologies and equipment. Elon is one of the few undergraduate programs with a fully equipped cadaver lab. You will also be able to take advantage of computerized data acquisition in Physiology labs and up-to-date equipment in molecular biology. In addition, you will have access to books, brochures, catalogs, videotapes and CD-ROM information on a wide variety of health profession programs to help you choose your next step.
Students can take advantage of research opportunities with many of the faculty at Elon University and can find financial support through the University's Undergraduate Research Program. Students also have the opportunity to present their research at local, regional, and national meetings.
Elon students are encouraged to do at least one internship in there area of interest, to truly understand what that profession is all about. Elon students do internships in a wide range of areas, both at Elon and at home. Internships are mentored not only by health professional with which the student is working, but also with a faculty member at Elon
