The first part of the semester will require you to take HSS 411 and HSS 412, six-week block courses. The remaining portion of the semester will be spent in your field internship placement and HSS 482-Capstone Academic Field Seminar.
Step 1
If you are an HSS major, you will be notified by email the Spring semester before your senior year to prompt you to apply for internship. Applications for internship are due March 1st the Spring semester of your Junior year.
Step 2
You will complete the online application via the link above. To login, use your email address and password. If you are trying to get to the application from off-campus (and not joined to our domain), you may have issues because you'll need to specify if you are as\username or fs\username. Faculty recommendations are not required for the internship application. If you have designated a semester preference, make sure you complete the semester preference justification box.
Step 3
Completed applications will be reviewed by the Field Coordinator and the Human Service Studies Department Chair.
Students will be assigned to the Spring or Fall semester. You are not guaranteed to get your semester preference unless there is a compelling academic reason that dictates a particular semester. Many factors are considered when assigning students to a particular semester.
Step 4
You will be notified by email indicating your assigned semester in time for student advising week and registration.
IMPORTANT: You will need to register and enroll in HSS 481 for your assigned semester. Completing the HSS 481 application doesn’t enroll you in the course.
Step 5
The Field Coordinator will attempt to meet with you individually to discuss your field placement preferences. This meeting will help clarify what your career and academic goals are in order to place you in a setting that closely aligns with these goals.
Step 6
The Field Coordinator will work on placements for the Fall semester students over the summer and early Fall. You will be notified of your placement no later than October 1st.
For Spring internship students, your placements will be made during January-March timeframe. You will be notified of your placement no later than Spring Break.
