November 1, 2013
Dear Band Director:
It is a pleasure to invite you and your large and small jazz ensembles to the 18th annual Elon Jazz Festival on Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22, 2014. Our festival will afford your bands the opportunity to work with and be critiqued by working jazz performers and educators. Plus, you and your band can benefit from the helpful workshops held during the event. Because of your support, we have grown into a week-long event, now expanded to include additional lunch time performances and lectures on February 18-21. The extra days will allow for more of the activities you have asked for.
Several features will once again highlight this year’s festival. First, one hour of renewal credit will be available for you when you attend the workshops. I will send you written confirmation certifying your completion of the workshops. (Please show this letter and the schedule of events to your personnel director for their advance approval.) Also, I will schedule in advance audition times with you for any of your seniors who would like to audition for entrance into our music and/or jazz studies program while they are on campus for the festival. A special performance by the clinicians, additional guest artists, and the Elon University Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. will close the festival.
2014 Festival guest artists and clinicians are still TBA.
I hope you can join us for the event. It promises to be an exciting educational experience for all involved. Festival Guidelines, a Registration Form, and the Tentative Schedule are available on this website. Please note the January 30, 2014 registration deadline. Should you need any more information, feel free to contact me.
