RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Elon University seeks applicants for a three-year full-time Teaching Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mathematics and Statistics with the rank of visiting assistant professor to begin mid-August 2014.  The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree, earned by August 2014, in mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, statistics education, or a closely related field. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching in a liberal arts setting, have a strong desire to strengthen their teaching skills, and be committed to professional development and service.

Primary teaching responsibilities will include General Statistics, Statistics in Application, Applied Calculus or Calculus I (depending on qualifications), and courses in Elon’s Interdisciplinary General Studies Program. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to teach upper-level courses in the second and third years of the appointment. Fellows teach six courses per year, participate in departmental activities as well as the offerings of Elon's Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and enjoy University privileges (including eligibility to apply for some internal grants). Fellows may expect mentoring and apply for institutional support as they engage in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning while also pursuing scholarship in their areas of specialization. The Mathematics and Statistics Department at Elon University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics specializing in mathematics education to begin mid-August 2014.  The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate by August 2014 in mathematics education or mathematics with a strong emphasis in education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in diverse public school settings, as well as a record of collaborative work within these settings.

The successful candidate will teach courses for pre-service teachers in mathematics content, secondary mathematics methods, and additional 100-level core courses such as General Statistics, Applied Calculus, or Calculus I (depending on qualifications). Candidates must also be willing to supervise student teachers, mentor undergraduate research, and teach courses in Elon’s General Studies Program.  Candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, a program of high quality scholarly activity.
