“Phoenix Winds” Wind Ensemble Announces Spring Program:

Following our fall trip around the world, the wind ensemble will present music from some of the United State’s greatest and most important composers. The concert will include works from George Gershwin, Charles Ives, Terry Riley, Leonard Bernstein, John Cage, and a must see performance of Aaron Copland’s landmark Lincoln Portrait, featuring a special guest narrator! The concert will also feature the world premiere performance of emerging American composer David Kirkland Garner’s Briar for wind ensemble and playback, with the composer in attendance. Please join us for this night of legendary American music on May 9, 2017 in McCrary Theater at 7:30pm. The concert is free and open to the public (no tickets required)!

The program featured works from Yo Goto (Japan), Darius Milhaud (France), Khachaturian (Russia), Schostakovich (Russia), Marquez (Mexico), and two works rarely heard in the United States from Chinese Army Band arranger Chen Dan.
