Melody Causby currently serves as the Assistant Director of Bands and Adjunct Professor of Music Education. Melody is a North Carolina native and holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Campbell University and a Master's of Music Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently a PhD Music Education student at UNC Greensboro, and serves as a Graduate Assistant there.
Previously, Mrs. Causby was a band director in NC Public schools for eleven years, during which time the programs she ran grew in both size and quality. Melody received the Encore Award by the American School Band Directors Association which recognizes young band directors early in their career as directors of great achievements and promise. She was also named Teacher of the Year at her school, and was the inaugural recipient of the Campbell University Music Department Alumni Award.
As a member of the NC Bandmasters Association, Melody served the Central District as MPA Chair, Solo and Ensemble Chair/Host, Mentor Committee Representative, and on the Board of Directors first as a Member at Large then as Secretary. In November 2016, Melody will be presenting a session at the NC Music Educators Association for young band directors about growing successful music programs in rural areas.
Mrs. Causby is active as a clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator for marching and concert bands throughout the region. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, and the North Carolina Music Educators Association.
Amber Smith started her color guard career during high school and after graduating she continued building her talents by competing for four seasons with Carolina Visual Productions Winterguard. Following her age out year of Independent A Class, Amber went on to spin with First Flight Independent World Winterguard for two seasons. During those two summers, she also performed with DCA's Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps and for two years Amber was a member of the Marching Tarheels at UNC-Chapel Hill. Accomplishments include: WGI Independent A Finalist, two-time WGI Independent World Finalist, DCA Class A Champion with two-time Best Color guard. Amber currently helps instruct Carolina Visual Productions Winterguard, the Elon marching band's color guard, and works as a Registered Nurse.
