Dale Becherer, Associate Professor Performing Arts - is the Scenic Designer for the Department of Performing Arts at Elon University, where he also teaches Scenic Design, Theatre Design, Technical Production for Theatre, Scene Painting, AutoCAD, and Introduction to Theatre. At Elon, Dale has designed scenery for more than 30 productions and lights for various productions and dance concerts. In the region, Dale has designed scenery and lights for Mooresville Community Theatre, Davidson Community Theatre and Appalachian Young People's Theatre for whom he also designed and constructed an eight foot tall dragon costume for their production of the award winning play "The Reluctant Dragon." Dale has been a scenic artist at The Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT and Florida School of the Arts in Palatka, FL. During the summer of 2002, Dale was one of 12 scenic designers chosen to participate in a two week master class at the Kennedy Center with renowned scenic designer Ming Cho Lee. Dale earned his BA in Theatre from UCLA and has an MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana. Prior to coming to Elon, Dale taught and designed at Suffolk County Community College in Long Island, NY; Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA; Appalachian State University in Boone, NC; Davidson College in Davidson, NC; and California State University Bakersfield, CA. As a hobby, Dale loves to rebuild and restore pianos, especially player pianos.
