Richard P. Gang
Prior to coming to Elon University, Mr. Gang spent
almost two years at the Sullivan Street Theatre in New
York with the cast of the original production of The
Fantasticks. Prior to joining this world-reknowned
musical company, Mr. Gang played the cross-dressing
lunatic, Lionel MacAuley, in Off Broadway's long
running mystery, Perfect Crime.
Mr. Gang is a graduate of Rutgers University,
Professional Actor?s Training Program where he received
his MFA in Theatre Arts. Prior to attending Rutgers, he
was with the California Repertory Company where he won a
Drama-Logue award for his portrayal of Merlin in
Merlin (Or the Barren Land). Also an experienced
classical actor , he has been seen in Much Ado About
Nothing, Taming of the Shrew, The Winter's Tale,
Comedy of Errors and Two Gentlemen of
Verona at the New York Renaissance Festival, at the
time, the country's only Union affiliated Renfest.
Regionally, he has played such diverse roles as Johnnie
(Frankie and Johnnie in the Clair de Lune) Fagin
(Oliver) and Tevye (Fiddler on the
Roof) and has toured throughout Europe as Lt. Shrank
(West Side Story).
Mr. Gang had a lengthy career as a speech and hearing
therapist, specializing in learning disabilities. He
taught acting, voice and diction and theatre history at
Rutgers University, Rider University, Westminster Choir
College, the William Esper Studios in New York City, The
Governor's School at The College of New Jersey and
the McCarter Theatre's Educational Outreach Program.
Mr. Gang currently teaches method acting (Meisner
Technique) and Voice and Diction (Skinner/ITPA) in the
pre-professional program at Elon.
