Faculty
Dr. Kenneth Lee , baritone,
currently teaches voice and serves as the music director
for the Performing Arts program. Since joining the
faculty in 1997, he has also served as coordinator of the
vocal area, chair of the music department and director of
Elon's opera workshop.
Previously, Dr. Lee taught on the voice faculties of
Vanderbilt University and Millikin University, where he
served as director of opera. Recently, he performed at
the York Minster in Great Britain and toured a program
of American music in the Italian cities of Florence,
Perugia, Livorno and Terni.
Dr. Lee has appeared as a guest artist with such
organizations as the Nashville Symphony, the Greensboro
Symphony, the Rudolf Nureyev Farewell Tour with members
of the Paris Opera Ballet, the AIMS Festival Orchestra
in Graz, Austria, Eastman Opera Theatre, Nashville
Opera Association and at the national convention of the
National Opera Association. He was invited to appear as
a recitalist at the Cleveland Art Song Festival, the
Michigan Music Teachers Association, the North Carolina
State Music Teachers Association and at the national
convention of the Composers Society, Inc. He has
appeared in recital and oratorio throughout the U.S. in
major cities such as Chicago, Dallas, Cleveland,
Detroit, Indianapolis and Memphis.
Dr. Lee is featured on the internationally released
recording of the Holsinger Easter Symphony. Some of his
favorite roles include the Count in Le Nozze di
Figaro, Ford in Falstaff, Schaunard in
La Boheme, Don Cairo in Carmen, Billy
Bigelow in Carousel, Patrick in Mame
and Freddy in My Fair Lady.
Dr. Lee has studied with such artists as Jeannine
Crader, Sharon Mabry and Marion Pratnicki. He has
coached with Harold Heiberg, John Wustman, Ken Merrill,
Arleen Auger, Benjamin Luxon, Gerard Souzay and Martin
Katz.
Dr. Lee holds a doctoral degree in voice performance
from the University of North Texas. He received a BS in
music education from Austin Peay State University and a
MM in voice performance from Western Michigan
University. He has done post-graduate studies at the
American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria,
and at the Eastman School of Music, where he was
awarded the Teaching Prize for excellence in studio
teaching.
