Mitchel Sommers, a native New Yorker, received his MFA in acting/directing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He spent more than 20 years in New York City appearing off-broadway, traveling with national tours of "Godspell" and "Fidder on the Roof," starring in "Best of Broadway" at major resorts in the Catskills and Poconos, and had a two-year stint as Delia's bartender in the ABC series "Ryan's Hope."

After several seasons as an entertainer on Holland America, Norwegian American and Home Cruise Lines, in addition to being featured in numerous productions including "Guys & Dolls," "West Side Story" and "Company," Mitchel returned to Greensboro with his family in 1989. Since then, he has served as executive director of The Community Theatre of Greensboro, cantorial soloist at Temple Emanuel of Greensboro, and directs and appears regularly at CTG, the Barn Dinner Theatre of Greensboro and Castle McCulouch in Jamestown.
