Mitchel Sommers received his MFA in Acting/Directing from UNC-G in 1976 and returned to his native New York to spend the next fifteen years working as a professional actor . Besides a 2 year stint on ABC’s RYAN’S HOPE, Mitchel performed his nightclub act on most major cruise lines and in major resort hotels in the Northeast. His appearances in dinner theatres, regional theatres and national tours include Motel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Judas in GODSPELL, Captain Corcoran in H.M.S. PINAFORE and Billy Bigelow in CAROUSEL.

He has been the Executive Director of the Community Theatre of Greensboro for 27 years, and has directed numerous shows including ANNIE, THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, WEST SIDE STORY, AMADEUS, PETER PAN, HAIRSPRAY, A RAISIN IN THE SUN and the yearly musical extravaganza, THE WIZARD OF OZ. Locally, Mitchel has appeared as a soloist with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and in Broach productions of MOON OVER BUFFALO and EVERYONE LOVES OPAL. He has also directed productions of ANNIE, WE’VE BEEN FRIENDS FOREVER, CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES and SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ at the Barn Dinner Theatre. The proud father of Erik and Devon, Mitchel is also the Cantorial Soloist at Temple Emanuel.
