My research interests are primarily in the areas of stereotypes and prejudice, intergroup relations, and the self and identity.  I am currently pursuing three main lines of research that focus on these issues.  The first of these examines the characteristics of with sexual prejudice (i.e., prejudice based on sexual orientation).  Another line focuses on individual differences that influence the quality of intergroup interactions for both majority and minority group members.  Finally, I am also interested in the way that people respond to prejudice and the experience of discrimination.  In addition to theoretical understanding, I am also interested in how research on prejudice can be effectively applied to increase the quality of intergroup contact, reduce negative attitudes, and benefit stigmatized groups.
