I am trained as a social psychologist with a specialty area in health psychology. My academic interests include social and health psychology, research methods, gender issues, and human sexuality. My research falls within several areas, including the influence of personality and cognitive processes that affect health-related attitudes and perceptions; and aspects of gender identity and personality that affect health behaviors. Current research projects include social perceptions of excessive alcohol use as affected by gender and gender roles; and an examination of theoretical explanations for gender-specific motivations for health risk-taking. I received my B.A. degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University, my M.S. from Wake Forest University and my Ph.D. from Iowa State University in Social-Health Psychology.
