I am a licensed psychologist and school psychologist in North Carolina and hold a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology with the American Board of Professional Psychologists (ABPP). I have written several books on child and adolescent psychopathology, and have also co-authored a book on special education services for children with special needs. I am currently interested in investigating the impact of child onset disorders on later life adjustment, such as the transition to college years. Most recently, with the help of my research students, I have been investigating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in college students. Some of the areas that we have studied, include: resilience and well-being; locus of control; and the perception of time. Other areas of research interest that focus on the population at large, include stress and adjustment to important life transitions. In the past, my research interests have also focused on the impact of sports and leisure activities on social adjustment, belongingness and school retention in children and youth, and if a student were interested in pursuing this line of research, I would be very willing to discuss the possibilities. This is my seventh year teaching at Elon and I primarily teach courses in general psychology, abnormal psychology, child psychopathology, and global studies. During the summer, I enjoy teaching on-line courses on Psychology in the Schools and Mental Illness and Film. I received my BA and MA in Psychology from the University of Windsor, and my Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
