| What is the purpose of a Public Health Studies minor? | |
| The Public Health Studies minor has been designed for students who are looking for an introduction to the public health field and its disciplines. The minor was developed, in part, as a response to the Institutes of Medicines' recommendation that "all undergraduates should have access to education in public health." As the public health challenges of the 21st century emerge in new and more complicated forms, it is essential that the training of public health professionals keep pace. The Public Health Studies minor will help you acquire the tools and skills you need to create and disseminate public health knowledge and to apply that knowledge on local and international scales. | What are the opportunities after graduation for a student with a Public Health Studies minor? | |

| As a Public Health Studies minor, would I be able to get hands-on, real-life experience? | |
| Yes. One of the minor's core courses, Introduction to Public Health (PHS 301) is a designated service-learning course and requires students to complete 40 hours of experiential learning. Such a requirement is geared toward exposing students to the world of public health practice. In part, this course will help students become more educated citizens in the realm of public health needs and challenges. PHS 301 also fulfills the experiential learning requirement (ELR) Elon students need in order to graduate. Internships also are available to interested Public Health Studies minors. | |
| Do the core courses PHS 301 and PHS 302 count toward the Advanced Studies outside-the-major requirement? | |
| Yes. | |
| Do students ever minor in Public Health Studies but not pursue a career in public health? | |
| Yes. Students take Public Health Studies courses for many different reasons. Some students take these courses simply out of personal interest, while others plan to use the knowledge and skills to broaden or complement their program of study or anticipated professional path. | |
| Do I need to be a Public Health Studies minor in order to take public health-designated courses? | |
