MBA Student Bernadette Spong accepts new job as CFO
of Rex Hospital
Bernadette Spong, a second-year student in the MBA program,
was the successful candidate for a national search for CFO of
Rex Hospital in Raleigh. In her new position, Bernadette will
have responsibility for several departments including
planning, accounting, patient billing, medical records and
patient access. Rex is a 388-bed facility that is part of the
UNC HealthCare System.
In addition to the skills and knowledge she has acquired
through through the Elon MBA program and through her 20 years
of experience in healthcare (most recently as Director of
Financial Planning at WakeMed in Raleigh), Bernadette
especially credits JoAnn Buck’s course in business
communications in helping her win the competition for this
plum position. “JoAnn and the students in MBA 510 tore
into my resume. It came out much, much stronger. Those skills
in communication and persuasion are what gave me an advantage
going into this search.”
Bernadette is married and has two children. When not working
or studying, she enjoys playing tennis and golf.
Congratulations from the Elon MBA program, Bernadette!
