Honors Program

David Temple, '83: My name is Dr. David Temple and, after graduating from Elon in 1983, I went on to be a public school teacher and administrator for many years. I moved into higher education in 2008 and was just named Chair of the School of Education at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory. Prior to being honored with this position, I started and taught the Master of Arts in Teaching Program through the Lenoir-Rhyne Graduate Studies Center in Asheville.


Curtis Rickard, '87: After graduating from Elon in 1987, Curtis went to work for Piedmont Airlines / USAir where he was working on September 11, 2001. The day before, he had been offered a teaching position with Davidson County Schools. He left USAir and began teaching Business Education classes at his former high school, Ledford, October 1, 2001.  He obtained a masters degree in 2008 from Gardner Webb. Currently, both he and his wife, 1987 Elon grad Amanda Rickard, 1987 are teachers at Ledford a tradition of education that extends to his oldest son, Christopher who graduated from Appalachian State University in 2013 and now teaches math at East Davidson High School.  He married last June and is expecting a baby this November.  Curtis and Amanda's second son is in his second year at Appalachian and their daughter is a sophomore in high school.
