Honors Fellows' Contract

The Honors Program at Elon University offers challenging courses, helpful faculty mentoring, serious research opportunities, exposure to international perspectives, co-curricular activities, and a community of faculty and student inquirers who want to be fully engaged in a rewarding academic experience that culminates in a senior thesis

The groundwork for the Honors Thesis is laid in the coursework of the first two years. To insure future success, steady progress should be made in all classes, especially Honors courses, and in the writing and research skills needed to complete the thesis.

As a member of the Elon University Honors Program I agree to the following conditions:

1. to abide by the Elon University Honor Code as found in the Student Handbook and to model "Academic Citizenship" in all aspects of campus life;
2. to take a minimum of 30 semester hours per year for the first three years and to maintain a minimum of 12 hours both semesters of the fourth year for full-time status;
3. to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 in all coursework and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all Honors courses;
4. to write an annual report reflecting upon the degree to which I am meeting the expectations and performing as an Honors Fellow both inside and outside the classroom; (The form for the first-year student annual report and second-year student annual report are available from this site.)
5. to complete the following 4-year Honors core sequence:

First Year	Honors GST 110	Honors 1st-year Seminar
Second Year	Honors Team-Taught Interdisciplinary Seminar I	Honors Team-Taught Interdisciplinary Seminar II
Third Year	Honors GST Seminar (any time in 3rd or 4th year) Workshops in preparation of thesis proposal	Thesis Proposal submitted
Fourth Year	Thesis credit (HNR 498) – majority of project work Presentation on thesis progress	Thesis completion and defense

(Honors sections of Math and College Writing are optional opportunities.)

6. successfully complete stages of an approved Honors Thesis, including attending workshops and developing a research proposal in collaboration with a faculty member during the third year and making satisfactory progress on and completing the thesis in the fourth year;
7. participate in required co-curricular activities. These include completion of six semesters of participation in the Colloquium Program and two instances of academic service for the Honors Program and/or the university as defined by the Director.

The Honors Advisory Council will regularly monitor student progress in the Honors Program.  Students who fail to meet the above requirements in an acceptable manner will normally be dismissed from the Program and will lose eligibility for Honors scholarships, travel grants, research grants, enrollment in Honors courses, Honors housing, and any other rights and privileges associated with the Honors Program at Elon University.

I fully understand all of the above requirements, agree to permit the Honors Program to check with university officials about whether I have violated the Honor Code, and agree to participate to the best of my ability in the Elon University Honors Program.
