Honors CoursesHonors Fellows take a set of courses designed especially for them. These liberal arts courses provide intellectual challenge within a supportive small-class framework and fulfill some of the university's General Studies requirements.
In their third and fourth years, Honors students will use these skills to further their advanced work in their majors and to design their Senior Honors theses. As Fellow Andrew Redman put it, "Honors classes, more than others, make you think more ‘outside the box’ and apply the factual information you learn to real-life situations by using different methods of reasoning." See the list of offerings in the column to the right for descriptions of the Honors classes. Team-Taught Interdisciplinary SeminarsUnique to Elon's Honors Program are courses taught by two professors from different fields. These are offered in the second year. On an evaluation of the Exploring Consciousness course, one student commented:
Really cool content + readings; mind-blowing discussions + new ideas; left me thinking about it after class all the time; really cool having discussion from these two different fields.
How to Sign Up for an Honors ClassHonors Fellows sign up for Honors courses in the same manner as other courses, using OnTrack. Fellows should consult with their advisors before making choices. Questions should be directed to Dr. Vandermaas-Peeler or Dr. Carignan. |
