Peace Corps

Teaching Abroad

  • Kristen Allen ('11) taught abroad in South Korea after her Indepedent Elon Program Abroad in Jordan.
  • Gayla Carr (’12) works in Taiwan at a company called LanguageCorps as an ESP Teacher at Perimeter International School. 
  • Kaela Conroy ('10) taught abroad in Spain after her study abroad experiences in Spain and Costa Rica.
  • Shannon Gillen ('11) is teaching English as a Foreign Language in Rome at Hours in Motion.
  • Kara Newell ('12) is teaching at the Shutz American School in Alexandra, Egypt.  
  • Sara Riek ('10) studied abroad in London for a semester and cataloged her experiences as an English teacher at a university in Ecuador.
  • Kaylyn J. Smialek ('12) works at the Chelsea Group of Children as a Literacy teacher to upper grades in Wandsworth, United Kingdom.
  • Renee Zale ('11) studied abroad in Chile for two semesters and now teaches with Fundacion Juventas, an NGO based in Tunja, Colombia.

Research/Fellowship Abroad

  • Christopher Jarrett ('11) who studied and researched in Ecuador while at Elon, was awarded a Fulbright award to continue research in Ecuador.  Read about his experience through his blog.

Graduate School Abroad

  • Lauren Limerick (‘09) studied at  The American University of Paris, Paris, France and received a Master of Arts in Global Communications.
  • Cedric Pulliam (’11) is currently a Graduate Research Fellow at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary.
  • Lauren Taylor (’10) who studied abroad in the UK and conducted research in Costa Rica, South Africa, and Honduras, recently completed her Masters in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  After her masters she completed a one year internship/work placement in the UK.
