2017 Elon 101 TA Job Description

Position End Date: December 18, 2018
Job Qualifications
  • Candidates must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours by the start of the Fall 2017 semester.
  • Selected TAs must remain in good standing with the Elon Honor Code/ Code of Conduct.
  • Elon 101 TAs must maintain a 2.75 GPA each semester and cumulative.
  • Elon 101 TAs must be interested in working with and mentoring first year students.
  • Candidates must be able to serve in the Elon 101 TA position for the duration of the Fall 2017 semester.
Responsibilities and Terms of Employment
All TAs are expected to:
  • Attend Spring 2017 Elon 101 training and complete summer training modules on April 30, 2017.
  • Attend all weekly Elon 101 class sessions in Fall 2017 semester.
  • Attend a minimum of ONE TA Tune-Up session during Fall 2017 summer.
  • Attend Orientation events on August 26, 2017, including meetings with new students and parents, Convocation, and advising appointments.
  • Meet with instructor to plan course sessions.
  • Facilitate 1-on-1 meetings with students in Elon 101 class as needed.
  • Contribute to Elon 101 course planning, class facilitation, and introduction of advising material throughout the Fall 2017 semester.
  • Collaborate with instructor to plan, teach, and/ or facilitate a minumum of ONE Elon 101 class session.
  • Serve as a peer mentor for academic, campus, and leadership involvement.
  • Assist with graduation planning for students in Elon 101 class and demonstrate tools and resources available for students.
  • Assist with advising of students in Elon 101 class by providing a student perspective.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Elon 101 Director, Academuc Advising Fellow, or assigned Elon 101 Instructor.
  • Complete I-9 and work agreement before attending spring training on April 30, 2017.
  • Abide by FERPA and Elon proffesional and ethical standards of conduct, maintain confidentiality and not release private information regarding students. 
Learning Outcomes
Throughout the duration of this position TAs will:
  • Build and employ knowledge of opportunities, campus partnerships, and institutional resources.
  • Learn the components of a meaningful mentor/mentee relationship with Elon 101 students, and serve as a role model and guide academically and socially for first year students.
  • Compose personal goals and gain experience and transferable skills with administrative tasks, leadership, and personal and professional development. 
  • Develop interpersonal communication skills through facilitation and individual relationships. 


Upon Completion of all TA responsibilities, Elon 101 TAs will receive a $175 stipend in December of 2017
