General Studies & Core Courses

Elon’s General Studies Program provides students with breadth and depth in the arts and sciences. It consists of a first-year core (College Writing, General Statistics, The Global Experience, and Contemporary Wellness Issues), distribution requirements in the arts and sciences, an experiential learning requirement, a foreign language proficiency requirement, advanced courses in the arts and sciences outside the major, and interdisciplinary seminars. The vertical and horizontal nature of the program insures that students obtain the knowledge and skills in the first year that are necessary for success in succeeding years in terms of writing, quantitative literacy, critical thinking, and wholeness.
