63. Prison Wall

This photograph was taken  in an abandoned prison on Con Dao Island in Vietnam. This island is infamous for its severe prison facilities and tiger cages. During the French colonial era, Vietnamese nationalists were imprisoned here to serve their sentences for their anti-French activities. Prisoners were also held here during the Vietnam War. They were beaten and starved, suffering in inhumane conditions. The treatment of the prisoners in this prison was an injustice and violation of human rights.
