The Leon and Lorraine Watson North Carolina Scholarship

As Leon "Doc" Watson '25 and his wife, Lorraine, planned their estate, they knew investing in Elon students was an outstanding way to create a legacy and give back to the school that meant so much in their lives. Their bequest funds the Leon and Lorraine Watson Scholarship Program, aiding North Carolina students with high financial need.

Eight $10,000 scholarships will be awarded annually. To qualify for selection, students must:

  • be North Carolina residents who have attended for one or more year(s) and will graduate from a North Carolina high school
  • demonstrate a high financial need (with preference to Pell eligible students)
  • have a strong record of academic achievement.

Special consideration will be given to students who meet some or all of the following:

  • are the first members of their families to attend college
  • reside in a school district with an above-average concentration of low-income families
  • have achieved success despite hardship or unusual challenge
  • will bring cultural or socio-economic diversity to the university
  • exhibit excellent potential to benefit from the opportunities of an Elon education and the Watson Scholarship Program

The Endowed Scholarship application deadline is February 10.
