Applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships

Beginning in January 2012, file for Financial Aid if you are planning to do so. Elon requires three forms: FAFSA, www.fafsa.ed.gov, PROFILE, profileonline.collegeboard.com, and the Elon Aid Application, www.elon.edu/financialaidapp. The FAFSA and PROFILE are also available from your high school guidance office. We give priority to applications that are complete, in our office and ready for our review by mid-March.  To meet this deadline, you should complete and submit all applications and forms no later than mid-February.

Deadline for applications to Fellows Programs and for Engineering Scholarships: January 10

Applications and information are available online at www.elon.edu/fellows.  Students selected to compete for these programs will be invited to Fellows and Scholarship Weekend, March 2-3.

Watson and Odyssey Programs Deadline: February 10

A variety of endowed scholarships are available for students with documented financial need. Information and an application are available at www.elon.edu/watson_odyssey.

Fellows and Scholarship Weekend: March 2-3

Finalists for the Honors, Elon College, Business, Communications, Teaching and Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows programs and Engineering scholarship candidates attend seminars and interviews. International Fellows interviews will be conducted via phone or Skype in mid-March. Recipients will be notified April 1. Program participants and scholarship winners are selected from among the finalists.


Opportunities for a Spring Visit

Phoenix Fridays:  February 10, February 17, March 30,  April 13, April 27

An excellent opportunity for admitted students to spend time with an enrolled student and take a closer look at Elon. You may tour campus, attend a class and eat lunch in a dining hall with student hosts. Space is limited, so register early at www.elon.edu/admissions.

Spring Orientation Weekends:  March 9-10 and April 20-21

For admitted freshmen who have paid the $500 enrollment deposit. During the weekend, you will:

  • List your preferences for fall semester courses with the help of an academic adviser.
  • Tour residence halls and get answers to your questions about housing.
  • Attend a “How to Survive or Not Survive in College” workshop.
  • Meet other incoming freshmen. 

Parents have their own full schedule of activities, including a popular parents’ version of “How to Survive or Not Survive in College.”

Multicultural Experience Weekend:  March 30-31

This weekend is designed for students interested in the multicultural experience at Elon University. Accepted seniors and their parents will have an opportunity to learn more about academic programs, student life and financial aid. A highlight of the weekend will be a diversity conference in which students participate.


Department of Fine Arts Auditions

All students auditioning for Performing Arts programs at Elon University must also submit a separate university admissions application by the final application deadline on January 10.

Students planning to major in Theatre Arts (Acting), Dance Performance and Choreography, or Music Theatre must be accepted to the program through depart­mental auditions. The audition can also qualify Music Theatre and Acting students for consideration for a department scholarship. Students wishing to enroll in the Theatrical Design & Production program must complete an interview/portfolio. No audition is required for the B.A. in Theatre Studies major or for a minor in Theatre Arts or Dance. Students pursuing a major in Music, Music Performance or Music Education must be accepted to the program through departmental audition. Those interested in Music Technology as a major must submit a portfolio and interview for the program. Students interested in the B.F.A. in Art must submit a portfolio and interview with faculty. Please visit www.elon.edu/art for more information.

Making your Enrollment Deposit

Early Decision deposit deadline: January 10

Accepted Early Decision students must submit a non-refundable $500 enrollment deposit and withdraw applications from all other colleges and universities.

Early Action and Final Deadline deposit deadline: May 1

The $500 freshman enrollment deposit must be paid by this date in order to guarantee enrollment. After May 1, deposits are accepted on a space-available basis only. Refund policy: May 1 is the last day for full refund of enrollment deposits; $200 is refund­able until June 15. After that date the deposit is not refundable except for medical emergencies.


Departments that will contact you after your deposit has been received

Academic Advising: Course selection information will be available in the spring semester.  A special academic advising session at Spring Orientation will assist you in course preference selection.  If you are unable to attend, you will receive this information by mail. The mailing includes instructions for completing the online Course Request forms, which are to be submitted to Academic Advising no later than June 1.

Application Technologies: Elon email accounts will begin mailing in mid April.

Residence Life: Instructions for the online housing application will be sent via email to freshmen in early May.  The Housing Application must be completed in early June.  Housing and roommate assignments are available online in July.

Bursar’s Office: Details regarding 2012-2013 costs and Elon’s convenient 10-month payment plan will be mailed to you in early May. The plan begins in June.  For more information now, go to www.tuitionpay.com/elon.

Fall bills are available online in July via Elon’s E-bill site. Complete information about your account will be emailed to your Elon student account.

August 3 is the deadline for paying your fall bill to complete registration by mail. Your fall schedule of classes will be available after the bill is paid. For North Carolina residents, residency forms must be returned to the Office of Financial Planning by this date.

Health Services:  Physical examination and immunization forms will be emailed to you from the Elon R.N. Ellington Health Center. N.C. state law requires that all students submit proof of adequate immunization. The forms should be completed and returned by July 1. Printable forms are online at www.elon.edu/health.

New Student Orientation: A special mailing will be sent in July containing complete information about New Student Orientation. This schedule is updated annually at www.elon.edu/orientation.
