From the dean
For the third straight year, the Alamance-Burlington School System Teacher of the Year is an Elon alumna. Congratulations to Kim Poe '08 on her selection. And while the media have focused on the rising costs of higher education, the School of Education has awarded more than $800,000 in tuition scholarships to prospective teachers. Impressive as this figure is, though, it provides only about 10 percent of the total tuition bill for our students. Your generosity is appreciated.
See you on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. in Mooney Building for our Homecoming gathering.

Teacher of the Year awards
Kim Mellor G'05and Kim Poe '08 (left) were honored by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City and Alamance-Burlington (N.C.) school systems, respectively. Read more about Mellor's and Poe's recognitions.
Both join the long-standing tradition of School of Education alumni who have earned Teacher of the Year recognition. Have you received a professional honor recently? Please contact Janelle Ellis Rouse at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know.
School holds graduate
The 25 members of Class of 2012 enjoyed a bit of wit and wisdom from one of their own, Tyronna Hooker G'09, at the M.Ed. Commencement ceremony in August. Hooker was the 2011 North Carolina Teacher of the Year. View excerpts from Hooker's address here.
We wish all of our graduates the best of luck!

Three teacher education students - Emily Liberatore (science education/biology), and Madelyn Rooney and Crystal Edwards (mathematics/teacher licensure) have been selected to participate in the Noyce Scholars program. The program encourages talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors to complete a teacher education program and earn teacher licensure in addition to a bachelor's degree in math or the sciences.
