Building and Maintaining Outstanding FacilitiesLindner Hall opens, anchoring the Academic VillageMartha S. and Carl H. Lindner III Hall, Elon’s first “green” academic building, opened in the Academic Village in summer 2009. The building houses the administration of Elon College, The College of Arts and Sciences, and several faculty members from the departments of history, geography, sociology and anthropology.
Lindner Hall's sustainable features include the use of recycled or energy-efficient materials in the building’s construction, installation of efficient plumbing fixtures and use of alternative energy sources for building functions. These features are among the many included in a report submitted to the United States Green Building Council in order to achieve certification as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver. LEED certification is the nationally recognized benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
