Throughout the years, Elon University has been recognized as a national model for engaged learning and excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs.
The 2009-10 academic year was no exception. In that period, the school established a chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, graduated its first Interactive Media master's class and celebrated the accomplishments of 22 high school students who successfully completed the Elon Academy, a university-run college access program. As in past years, the school received national recognition for its academic standards and value by publications including U.S. News & World Report, Kiplinger's, The Princeton Review and Newsweek-Kaplan.
During 2009-10, Elon also saw the continued flourishing of faculty and student scholarship and laid the foundation for several capital improvement projects such as the renovation of Alumni Gymnasium and the construction of new residential housing. These initiatives will complement Elon’s beautiful and historic campus, which is designated as a botanical garden.
During the 2009-10 academic year, Elon launched its new 10-year strategic plan, the Elon Commitment. The vision for the plan is simple and powerful: to engage students’ minds and inspire them to act as leaders and global citizens. Key to Elon's success will be a continued focus on increasing the level of academic challenge, with a strong emphasis on foundational liberal arts and sciences.
The Elon Commitment Strategic Plan is organized around eight themes:
