Prominent speakers stimulate academic climate

Important figures visited Elon during the 2009-10 academic year to share their unique perspectives on local, national and international events.

Bestselling author Khaled Hosseini visited Elon to deliver the keynote address at Fall Convocation in October. Dee Dee Myers, former Clinton spokeswoman and the first woman to serve as a White House press secretary, visited Elon twice in January as the sixth Isabella Cannon Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership.

Democratic Leadership Council Chairman Harold Ford, Jr. and National Public Radio's legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg spoke at Elon University School of Law as part of the Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Lecture Series. Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof called on students during A Convocation for Honors in March to find causes they care about and take steps wherever they are to make a difference in the world.
