The 2010-11 academic year marked the beginning of the transformation of Elon’s residential experience with the completion of three new residence halls. In line with the school’s sustainability master plan, these new buildings surround Elon’s first geothermal system, which will provide environmentally friendly heating and cooling.Through the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, the school also launched Campus Kitchen to feed the hungry of Alamance County.
For the second year in a row, the university was named one of the nation’s most “environmentally responsible green colleges” by The Princeton Review. It also received other accolades by U.S. News & World Report and the Sierra Club.
The 2010-11 year also saw the continued flourishing of faculty and student scholarship, the establishment of the Elon University Forest, 56 acres that will forever be preserved in its natural state, and the creation of a School of Health Sciences, which will include a new physician assistant studies master’s program that enrolls its first class in 2013.
During the 2010-11 academic year, Elon continued the implementation of the Elon Commitment, a 10-year plan aimed at engaging students’ minds and inspiring them to act as leaders and global citizens.
