Employee Assistance and Counseling Program (EACP)

What is an Employee Assistance and Counseling Program (EACP)?  It is a program dedicated to enhancing an employees' personal well-being and increasing effective job performance and satisfaction. The EACP provides confidential counseling when you or a dependent needs help to resolve personal problems that are affecting you, your family, or your work.

Who pays for the EACP services?  The cost of participation is being paid by Elon University.

What type of issues does the EACP deal with?  Anxiety, alcohol abuse, aging parents, depression, drug abuse, financial stress, family conflict, legal concerns, marriage conflict, grief and loss, job burnout and stress.

What other services does the EACP provide?  The services include, but are not limited to evaluation, counseling, and referral for individuals, couples and families. In addition to confidential counseling, the EACP also provides:

* 24-hour crisis response
* Assessment and referral
* Monthly workshops on interpersonal skill development
* A monthly Wellness newsletter
* A monthly supervisor skill development letter
* Team building opportunities at Cedar Rock Park

Will there be a record of my use or visits?  The EACP services are confidential*. Voluntary use of EACP services will not be noted in any of our organization's official records or in employees' personnel files. No one will know of your participation in the EACP program unless you so choose. Information from EACP can be released only with your written permission or from a court order.

*NC State law requires any suspicion of child/sexual abuse, elder abuse, or desire to do personal harm to oneself or others be reported to the proper agency for evaluation.

Is there a limit to the number of sessions?  There is no arbitrary limit to the number of appointments.

Do I need a referral from either my supervisor or The Office of Human Resources?  No. You can confidentially schedule your appointment(s) without directly involving your supervisor or The Office of Human Resources.

How do I make an appointment?  You can call (336) 538-7481 (or toll free at 1-877-800-9401) directly to request an appointment with an EACP counselor. You will be given a 50-minute appointment at the first available time that is convenient for you. If you wish to request a specific counselor or staff, please tell the secretary. You do not need to bring anything with you.

What if there is an emergency situation? If you consider a situation an emergency, tell the secretary. You will be seen on that day, if necessary. If it is after hours follow the voice message instructions.

What type of Workshops are offered and how do I find out about their availability?  Workshops are offered on a regular basis on a variety of topics such as:  parenting, communication skills, domestic violence, stress, eating, and many others.  Call the office to find out what workshops or "Lunch and Learns" are coming up.

Are there counseling groups available?  Yes. They are offered at least twice each year in such areas as depression and sexual abuse.

What type of newsletters are available?  Two monthly newsletters are provided. The first is ARMC Echoes, a very informative wellness publication. The second is called the Frontline Supervisor. This newsletter is filled with supervision tips for real situations.

What type of experience do the counselors have?  There is a diverse staff of six counselors with over 90 years of combined experience. All are minimally Masters prepared and are licensed in the state of North Carolina.

Where is the EACP located?  The EACP is a division of the Department of Pastoral Services located in the Grand Oaks Building on the ARMC main campus.
