Change in Pharmacy Benefit Management
As part of their continued efforts to manage the rising costs of prescription drugs, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is transitioning their pharmacy benefit management (PBM) from Medco to Prime Therapeutics® (Prime) effective April 1, 2012. As you may have many questions and concerns, BCBSNC wants to assure you that they are working to make this transition as seamless as possible. Below is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document, and other member communications that should answer most of your questions in regards to this transition. Please view the documents because they will further explain the changes and how those changes will affect individuals covered under the BCBSNC health insurance plans.

Listed below are a few highlights of some the important information that you need to know:
• PrimeMail – PrimeMail will replace Medco’s Mail Order Program and participating members will receive a welcome kit around February 27, 2012 notifying them of the change. The kit will contain an engagement letter, FAQ, brochure, and order form. If members have an open refill at Medco it will automatically transfer to PrimeMail. Controlled Substance refills by law will not be transferred over to PrimeMail and Prime will work directly with the member and/or their physician to obtain a new prescription. Credit Card Information will not be transferred to PrimeMail so members will need to provide that information. Instructions on how to provide credit card information is contained in the welcome kit.
• Refills by Mail - PrimeMail does not currently offer a refill program similar to Medco’s Worry Free Refill Program. Members will be required to make a positive response to PrimeMail prior to a refill being shipped either through the web at MyPrimeMail.com, by phone, or mail. This is aligned with BCBSNC's philosophy to have the right drug in the members hands at the right time. This change will combat undue waste and cost for members and plans.
• New ID Cards - ID cards will be reissued to members directly to their homes to reflect the transition to Prime Therapeutics. Members will receive a cover letter explaining the reason for the updated card and instructions to discontinue use of their current ID card as of midnight 3/31/2012. Other communication pieces may be included with the ID card.
If you have questions about this change, please contact BCBSNC's customer service at 1-877-275-9787.
