Waste Reduction: Compost Leaders

Under oversight of a Compost Leader, the Compost Leader Program supplies willing and responsible halls with the materials necessary to start collecting compostables on their floor. Residents then dispose of compostables in a compost bin on their floor and take turns emptying bin contents in the compost bin in the recycling/trash room or in the outdoor waste station.

What does a Compost Leader do?

  • Get people in their hall interested and involved
  • Request info session and materials
  • Oversee use of the bin
  • Return bin at the end of the semester
  • Serve as point of contact with Office of Sustainability/Eco-Rep

How do I get involved?

  1. Get buy in from your floor
  2. Once you have 5+ interested people, complete the Compost Leader Info Session Request . This is a 30 min information session for the floor. Everyone on the floor should be present, especially anyone who will potentially use the compost bin.
  3. After the info session, complete the Compost Leader Agreement to receive supplies
  4. Begin collecting compostables!

Do I have to be an RA or Eco-Rep to be a Compost Leader?

No! Anyone can be a Compost Leader.
