Areas of Expertise

Fascinated by animals and the outdoors as a child, Terry Tomasek's research focuses on an innovative approach to teaching science. She found that learning about reptiles and amphibians gets high school students interested in scientific research, helps them overcome fears and opens their eyes to parts of their community they’ve never noticed before. Her other research encompasses pre-kindergarten to 12th grade science teaching and learning, the use of mobile devices to support high school student science learning and teacher development. Tomasek also currently serves as the director of the Elon Academy and chair of the Study Abroad Standing Faculty Committee.
