Funds for faculty stipends are awarded directly to an applicant, and will be included in one or more monthly paychecks. This funding is considered income and is subject to taxes. Click on the links to find out more about programs that award stipends:

Faculty Research & Development Summer Fellowships
- Funding group: Faculty Research and Development Committee
- Eligible to apply: Full-time faculty (Check Faculty Handbook for additional requirements)
- Scope of funding: Faculty members are encouraged to apply for summer fellowships to conduct research or engage in a significant amount of additional study that will result in the recipient's professional development. These fellowships are intended to support faculty members who will be conducting their work during the summer months. Summer fellows cannot teach summer school classes during the year of the grant.
- Amount of (or range of) grants: Fellowships are funded in the amount of $7,000 (in June, July and August paychecks)
- Deadlines and decision dates: Nov. 1 application deadline. Proposal must have chair and dean approval prior to the application deadline. Decisions are announced by the end of fall semester.

Faculty Research & Development Hultquist Stipend Funds
- Funding group: Faculty Research and Development Committee
- Eligible to apply: Full-Time First Year Faculty
- Scope of funding: Awards are given to support first-year faculty development. Monies may be requested as a stipend to be included in summer paychecks or as cash reimbursement for supplies and expenses related to research, scholarship, writing, course development or course release. (Applicant should specify type of funding)
- Amount of (or range of) grants in 2008-09: $250—$1,000
- Deadlines and decision dates: Nov. 1 application deadline. Proposal must have chair and dean approval prior to the application deadline. Decisions are announced by the end of fall semester.

Summer Research Funds Through Deans' Offices
- Funding Group: Deans of Schools and of Elon College
- Eligible to apply: Faculty members in the School or College
- Scope of funding: Funding to support summer research; occasionally used also to support programmatic initiatives.
- Amount of (or range of) grants in 2008-09: $50 - $4,200
- Deadlines and decision dates: Target Deadline April 1

New Faculty Summer Research
- Funding Group: Provost's Office
- Eligible to apply: New continuing- and tenure-track faculty during the summer after their first or second year of teaching at Elon (funding is available to those faculty hired in 2008-09 or later).
- Scope of funding: Summer supplement to faculty salary to allow for summer research activities. Faculty may teach no more than one course during the summer when funding is received.
- Amount of (or range of) grants: Eventually equal to FR&D summer fellowship rate (>$7,000). Funding rates in initial years will be lower, but equal across all faculty recipients, as the budget is built. Funds are added to paycheck at the end of June, July and August.
- Deadlines and decision dates: Awards are not granted on a competitive basis. However, eligible faculty should submit to their Dean and the Provost's Office a plan for their summer research by January 30 of the year of the funding. A final report of summer research progress is due in the Provost's Office by October 15 of the year in which the stipend is given.
Service Learning Scholars
- Funding group: Academic Service-Learning Faculty Advisory Committee
- Eligible to apply: Full-time teaching faculty
- Scope of funding: Selected faculty receive $1,000 stipends to participate in monthly service-learning course development seminars throughout the fall semester.
- Amount of (or range of) grants: $1,000 per faculty member
- Deadlines and decision dates: Applications in March; Decisions in April

Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Grants
- Funding Group: Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning
Eligible to apply: Faculty
- Scope of funding: The CATL Teaching and Learning Grants program supports innovative teaching and learning projects. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $5,000, although smaller and larger proposals will be considered. Grants generally support start-up and one-time expenses (materials, stipends, and so on), rather than paying for ongoing operational costs. These grants will not fund a course release but can be used for summer stipends.

- Deadlines and decision dates: Applications are due October 10, 2009, and mid-March, 2010; decisions will be announced approximately two weeks after application date.

Project Pericles: Course Enhancement Grants
- Funding group: Project Pericles (National Office)
- Eligible to apply: All faculty
- Scope of funding: Typically $3,500-$5,000
- Amount of (or range of) grants: Four $4,000 grants were awarded in 2006-2007
- Deadlines and decision dates: These grants come from the national office on an occasional basis.
