Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Phoenix Club?
The Phoenix Club is the annual fund-raising organization for the Elon University Athletics Department. Its purpose is to increase funding for athletic scholarships. The goal of the Phoenix Club is to raise $1 million annually to fund the maximum number of scholarships allowed by the NCAA and strengthen the overall athletics program. Currently, Elon is 40 scholarships below the NCAA maximum.

Donors to athletics have been among Elon’s most generous benefactors, providing the University with excellent facilities and allowing the program to attract outstanding coaches and administrators. Scholarship support is the remaining component to ensuring that Elon sustains a winning tradition.

What does my gift support?
100% of your gift funds annual scholarships for more than 350 men and women student athletes.

I already give to the Elon Fund. How is the Phoenix Club different?
The Phoenix Club is the annual giving organization for athletics only. The Elon Fund is a key revenue source for the University’s general operating budget. Phoenix Club members restrict their gifts to athletic scholarships, while gifts to the Elon Fund are unrestricted and can be used where they are needed most. To receive Phoenix Club benefits, donors must restrict their gifts to athletics. All donors who give $1,500 or more to athletics each year are also recognized as Elon Society members at their respective giving circle levels.

What are the giving levels to join the Phoenix Club in 2006-2007?
$100 Ember
$250 Maroon & Gold
$500 Talon
$1,000 Champion
$1,500 Elon Society
$2,500 Hall of Fame
$5,000 Rising Phoenix

How do I become a Phoenix Club member?
By making a gift to the Phoenix Club. Your gift will have an immediate impact on all Elon student athletes.

Can I designate my gift to a specific sport?
By making a gift to the Phoenix Club, you are supporting a specific sport because all gifts support scholarship funding. Donors may endow a scholarship for a specific sport, which continues on in perpetuity.

Why does the Phoenix Club use a point system?
To create a fair system to assign seats in Rhodes Stadium and Alumni Gym. The point system will also be used for future distribution of post-season tickets.

Do the priority points I earned as a member of the former Elon Athletics Foundation carry over to the Phoenix Club?
Yes. The points you accrued from past contributions and season ticket purchases will carry over to the Phoenix Club. You are able to increase your points standing with continued contributions and purchase of season tickets to the Phoenix Club.
