Annual Spending Policy

Elon University trustees set the annual spending policy. The spending policy fluctuates based on the moving three-year average of the market value of the endowment. It is currently 4.7%.
 
All annual earnings or losses above or below the 4.7 percent payout rate are reinvested into or deducted from the fund’s principal.
