Elon University School of Law is
building on the University’s national reputation for
excellence in engaged learning and leadership
education. Elon Law students are challenged
to achieve at the highest levels, preparing to become lawyers
who fully embrace their roles as society's
problem-solvers and leaders.
At Elon Law, you'll find a new, innovative approach to the study of law, one that reconsiders the traditional methods of American law schools and provides a framework that actively engages students in their studies:
Elon Law students experience constant, constructive feedback and personal guidance from faculty, executive coaches and practicing attorneys (preceptors) who are committed to the school’s mission. The 4-1-4 academic year allows first-year students to spend January refining writing and analysis skills, while second- and third-year students concentrate on special legal perspectives courses such as alternative dispute resolution, trial advocacy and international law.
As a result, Elon students are expected to achieve at higher levels, demonstrating mastery of legal knowledge and skills. They then put their knowledge and skills into action through field experiences that prepare them to contribute substantially to the profession and society upon graduation.
A school that is embraced by the legal community
Elon Law was created through a community commitment to support a school of the highest quality and provide the finest facilities.
- The school's distinguished advisory board, led by former presidential adviser David Gergen, includes two former North Carolina governors, three former North Carolina Supreme Court chief justices, a former president of the American Bar Association, a former U.S. ambassador and numerous other business and legal leaders.
- Each student is assigned a preceptor, a practicing attorney who mentors and guides their professional development.
- Elon Law is the home of the North Carolina Business Court, one of only a handful of law schools in the nation to house a working court.
- The school collaborates with the neighboring American Judicature Society Institute of Forensic Science & Public Policy, researching issues at the intersection of law and science.
A school that embodies hope for the leaders of tomorrow
Elon Law's program begins with a comprehensive orientation to the legal profession, introducing students to their roles as leaders in society. Over the course of the three-year program, Elon Law incorporates the best of leadership education through courses, community activities and capstone experiences.
