The Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series

The Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series is an integral part of Elon University School of Law's commitment to develop lawyers who are also leaders. Endowed through a generous gift from the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greensboro, N.C., the Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series brings accomplished leaders from a variety of disciplines to Elon to share their experiences and perspectives with students and faculty.

During the series' 2007-2008 inaugural year, six noteworthy leaders from politics, business and the judiciary discussed their thoughts on leadership during programs moderated by John Alexander, the Isabella Cannon Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership at Elon. Each program included a one-on-one conversation between Alexander and the featured guest and time for questions from the audience.

The Bryan Lecture Series will continue with outstanding programs in 2008-09. CNN legal analyst and acclaimed author Jeffrey Toobin will be the featured guest Sept. 22, while noted historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough will visit Greensboro on Oct. 22. In addition, distinguished legal professor A.E. Dick Howard will give the Sandra Day O'Connor Lecture on Nov. 6. Here are the details of this year's events:

"What was it that changed about the Court after 2000? Justice O'Connor changed. She moved to the left because she saw that George W. Bush, the president that she put in office with her vote in Bush v. Gore, was not the kind of president she thought he was going to be."
