Law school is just the first step in your legal career. The Office of Student and Professional Life helps students and alumni take the next step. It helps them explore career opportunities, sharpen their networking and professional skills, and connect to the legal community. The Office’s programs are tightly integrated with the innovative Elon Law curriculum, from the day you start law school to the day you start working as a lawyer.
Exploring Your Career Options
A law degree creates many opportunities. Elon Law alumni work as attorneys in large firms and small, as lawyers for government agencies and nonprofit organizations, in corporate counsel offices and more.
All Elon Law students get full-time legal practice experience before they graduate. These take the form of full-time residencies in law practice, internships and serving clients in our five Elon Law clinics. Students also have opportunities to work as summer associates. The Office helps students identify and connect with these opportunities.
Every student is assigned an attorney mentor — one of four members of an individual legal success team — who provides a real-world view of day-to-day life as a lawyer.
Preparing for the Job Search
The legal skills and knowledge you gain in the classroom and through legal experience are critical to your success as a lawyer. Your networking and leadership skills, though, are also key to your professional success. The Center provides coaching and feedback on resumes, interviewing and networking skills. These further strengthen our graduates’ ability to find the jobs they want.
Connecting You to the Marketplace
The Center hosts a variety of on-campus and off-campus events where students can learn more about potential employers and different areas of legal practice. Elon taps its extensive professional and alumni network to connect law students and alumni with legal leaders. Through these events, students are able to develop one-on-one relationships with professionals in the legal community, including attorneys and judges.

Part of Your Legal Success Team
Career success is built into the Elon Law experience at every step. All students receive mentoring, coaching and guidance from their four-person legal success team. Each team includes a professor, an attorney-mentor, an executive leadership coach and a career development consultant. Career development consultants are based in the Center for Professional Development and ensure that you gain access to all of the career and networking resources available to you through the law school.
