Career Services

First-Year Students

First-year law students are strongly encouraged to focus on their academic studies during their first semester at Elon. The Career Services Office follows guidelines and policies set forth by the National Association of Legal Professionals (NALP) and, therefore, will be happy to meet with any first-year students on or after November 1st.

NALP guidelines also dictate that first-year students should not contact employers until December 1st. In the meantime, first-year students should begin thinking about professional development planning on their own.

The online resources listed below provide first-year students with a checklist to start the process.

Most Important Points:

  • First-year students should focus their first academic semester on their courses and coursework;
  • First-year students may schedule an appointment with the Career Services Office beginning November 1st;
  • First-year students should not contact employers until December 1st;
  • Typically, first-year students may attend many of the programs and employer panels Career Services offers, even before November 1st.
