![]() | Letter to Parents from Faculty Marshal May 1, 2008 To: Parents and Families of the Class of 2008: All of us look forward to Elon University’s Commencement activities May 23-24. I hope you will be able to attend the events described in the enclosed brochure. Please refer to the map that shows where specific events will take place as well as the locations for public parking on Saturday morning. Additional parking will be available at the Danieley Center, the East Parking Lot, The Oaks and Rhodes Stadium. The small parking area inside the wall and south of the Commencement site will be closed to general parking but open to cars bringing guests who have special needs or who are elderly. Drivers will then be asked to move to the designated public parking areas.Closed circuit viewing of the Commencement activities will be available in McEwen Communications Building for elderly family members as an alternative to the special needs section Under the Oaks. The brochure lists the Commencement weekend hours for the Campus Shop and the hours of the campus dining facilities that will be open during the weekend. Full service dining will be available at Cantina Roble and area restaurants (reservations are recommended). Our commencement Web site, www.elon.edu/e-net/commencement, has useful information for both graduates and their families and we will continually post any new information or changes to the website. Following the recessional, there will be a reception for graduates and their families on Scott Plaza. We anticipate that more than 10,000 people will attend graduation, and locating individual graduates may be a challenge. Signs for each of the academic departments will be placed above the reception tables indicated on the brochure diagram. We suggest graduates and their guests meet near the reception table for their academic major. Also enclosed is an important letter to our graduates regarding their preparation for the line of march. This letter is being sent to their address on file in the Registrar’s Office. It is possible that they no longer reside at the address listed in our database, and I would appreciate your ensuring that they receive a copy. An explanation of our rain plan and a map identifying the locations for closed circuit viewing are on the back panels of the enclosed brochure. Beginning on May 6 each graduate is responsible for picking up two rain location tickets for Koury Center from the office of the Vice President and Dean of Student Life in Alamance 109. The graduating class and their two guests will fill Koury Center; there will be no additional seats in Koury. Our faculty and all of our guests who do not have seats in Koury Center will be able to view the Commencement Exercises on closed circuit TV. Regardless of the weather forecast, please be sure that on Saturday morning the rain location tickets are in the possession of the individuals who will be using them. The faculty share your joy and pride in the accomplishments of our graduates. We look forward to a memorable weekend. Sincerely yours, George W. Troxler |
