Commencement ceremonies at Elon University are family friendly. Overnight accommodations at local hotels fill rapidly and advance reservations are recommended. Dress for the week's events is dressy casual and we encourage you to prepare for warmer daytime temperatures.

Several events may take place prior to commencement, including Baccalaureate, which is celebrated Friday at 3 p.m. in Alumni Gym. On Saturday, a complimentary continental breakfast is served around the fountain from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Tickets are not required for Commencement Under the Oaks, and graduates may bring as many guests as they like. General seating begins at 7 a.m. and seats cannot be reserved in advance of this time.

Elon Campus Safety and Police manage all parking lots at Commencement. Cars with special needs passengers should drive to the Whitley lot on Lebanon Avenue to receive parking instructions. Special needs guests and attendants can be dropped off at Whitley lot and directed to the special needs seating area near McEwen Building.  Cars will be directed to the nearest Special Needs Parking lot.

The undergraduate ceremony starts promptly at 9:15 a.m. Each graduate will walk to the stage to receive his or her diploma from President Lambert.

Following the ceremony, a reception hosted by Elon Alumni Engagement will allow families to meet their graduates. The refreshment tables are identified by schools and/or degree programs and provide an easy way to spot your party on the lawn.

Elon University will make every attempt to hold Commencement exercises Under
the Oaks on Saturday, May 23 at 9:15 a.m. If rain forces Elon to move Commencement from Under the Oaks into Alumni Gym this spring, the Rain Plan will be implemented and the Class of 2015 will be divided in two groups and identical ceremonies will be held at separate times. A ceremony for students receiving Bachelor of Arts degrees will begin in Alumni Gym at 9:15 a.m. on May 23, and a second ceremony will begin at 1:15 p.m. for students receiving Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degrees.

Graduates may pick up two rain location tickets in Alamance 109 (Office of Student Life) beginning May 4. It is the responsibility of the graduates to give these tickets to those who will use them May 23.

The two ceremonies will have about the same number of graduates and the commencement speaker will address students at both programs. Commencement exercises also will be streamed live online and broadcast via closed-circuit television in the following locations: McCrary Theatre, Yeager Recital Hall, McKinnon Hall, Lakeside, Oaks 212, Great Hall and Lindner Hall. In this event, the post-commencement receptions will be moved to these locations (arranged by school and degree programs) to assist your party to reassemble.

Please check back to this website throughout the spring for further updates on Elon University’s 125th Commencement Exercises.
